About Us
About Us
We are a Non-Profit Organization registered under section 8 of Indian company’s Act with it’s registered office in Jaipur, Rajasthan. The organization was set up in 2008 by a group of experienced individuals with backgrounds in development, environment, education and gender. The idea of the Center derives from the belief that ecology and society cannot be understood in isolation. The Center for Social Ecology was conceived as a space that would be open to multiple intellectual traditions and disciplines.
It is an organisation where research and intervention come together. Individuals from diverse backgrounds, academics, practitioners, civil society members are all seen as potential contributors to the organisation. The organisation is also seen as a hub where young researchers may turn to for mentorship. It will carry out its activities in all parts of India, both through engagement on the ground, with communities as well as in the digital domain.

The Indian Commoner Forum
The Indian Commoner Forum
This is a forum on the commons that seeks to encourage conversations around the way human societies manage and use resources based on practises that are co-created/shared by communities. Questions of commons concern not only the communities accessing and utilising these resources, but also different groups of people- civil society, academicians, activists, political thinkers, policy-makers, corporates, governments, etc. Consequently, the way commons are perceived is significantly influenced by their understanding of development. There are few spaces which bring out this diversity in the perspectives around commons. The intent of the forum is to provide a platform in which individuals from diverse backgrounds- workers and members of communities, academicians, people from government departments, civil society organisations- and all those interested can be part of these conversations.

Research and field work of the project is being conducted from a field station in the village of Alniyawas (Dist Nagaur). The project is being carried out in partnership with the Foundation for Ecological Security and KRAPAVIS Alwar and is Funded by the Azim Premji University and the Nudge Foundation.
